Adolescent Psychology and Development

Our therapists have experience working with adolescents with mental health issues and the many challenges that they face as they transition through this difficult stage.

One in seven young Australians experience a mental health condition and it is important that help is sought out for these young people before they develop problematic behaviours that will be carried over into their adulthood and become deeply ingrained in the way they do things.

Additionally, adolescence can be a tough and confusing period and it is extremely useful for teenagers to talk through their problems with a trusted voice, and a lot of adolescents will only feel comfortable talking through particular problems with someone from outside of the family.

Some common presenting problems for adolescents include:

  • Anger issues

  • Issues with identity or self-image

  • Uncertainty about the future

  • Self-harm

  • Depression or suicidal thoughts

  • Anxiety

  • Trauma

  • Eating disorders

Our counselling services endeavour to identify the core issues at the heart of any struggle that an adolescent might find themselves in, and offer real solutions to get our clients back to feeling their best.
